How do I submit an app or plugin to ChatGPT?
From the OpenAI Platform dashboard, under Plugins (Apps SDK apps now live there too). You need a verified developer or business identity, an MCP server the reviewer can reach from the public internet, tool annotations, test prompts, and a demo account if your app needs sign-in. Only one version can be in review at a time.
Why do ChatGPT apps get rejected?
The rejections reported here most often say the reviewer could not connect to the MCP server or could not get through sign-in: a blank authorization page, an email code instead of a password, device verification, or a firewall blocking their network. Test the whole OAuth flow in a fresh browser with the exact demo account you submitted, from outside your own network, before resubmitting.
Can I speed up ChatGPT app review?
OpenAI publishes no timeline and no expedite route. Developers who have waited a long time report opening a support ticket with the submission ID. In the reports collected here, rejections come back within days, so a long silence has usually meant the submission is still in the queue rather than failed.
How do I change a ChatGPT submission that is already in review?
A rescan doesn’t update it: the version in review keeps the tool snapshot it was submitted with. Cancel the review, which returns it to Draft, reconnect so ChatGPT rediscovers the tools, then resubmit. That is how our own resubmission went on 5 October 2026.
How long does the ChatGPT submission scan take?
About 4 to 6 minutes when we resubmitted on 5 October 2026, and its spinner never finishes, so reload the page. Items marked "Needs further review" send a tool to human review; they are not errors. The final submit step includes a checklist of attestations, among them that the plugin involves no money or crypto.
How do I submit a new version of a published ChatGPT plugin?
Open the plugin’s own page on the OpenAI Platform and use Create draft from ZIP in its header (earlier, Upload new version or Upload plugin to make changes). Approval doesn’t publish it: Publish plugin on the same page replaces the live version once you confirm. The Upload new or existing plugin area on the main Plugins page creates a second plugin instead, even when the package name matches: that is how we ended up with two on 6 October 2026. Don’t fix a duplicate by deleting it and uploading again, because deleting a plugin can reserve its name for a while.
How long does a ChatGPT plugin update take?
It depends on what changed. Stacktree’s 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 (22 and 23 October 2026) changed only skills and release notes, and both showed Ready to publish the moment they were submitted. Its 1.2.0, which came with new tools and a file viewer, took 16 days (6 to 22 October), though the tools themselves were live the day after they were deployed. We’ve seen this on one plugin so far. Either way, approval doesn’t publish the update: Publish plugin does.
Why did OpenAI email me to reconnect my plugin for daily MCP scans?
OpenAI’s daily scans of a published plugin run through your own ChatGPT connection to it. Uninstalling the plugin from your ChatGPT account ends that connection, and OpenAI emails “Reconnect your plugin … for daily MCP scans”. Reinstalling makes a new connection the scans don’t use, and on 22 October 2026 the portal’s Reconnect to scan wasn’t a button we could click. Our live tools kept working, and a new version could still be submitted with an “MCP checks need attention” note. Keep the plugin installed in the account you develop with.
Do tool changes reach a published ChatGPT plugin on their own?
OpenAI says changes to a published plugin’s MCP tools are picked up by its scans and go live after automated checks, with no new version; listing and skill changes need a new version. It isn’t instant: on 6 October 2026 a Rescan on our published plugin left its tool table on the reviewed list, and a published plugin’s MCP card has no Reconnect. By the next day the table listed all twelve new tools. If a new version’s test cases use new tools, wait until the MCPs tab lists them before you submit. MCP Events arrive the same way: minutes after our server began advertising events on 22 October 2026, ChatGPT ran a task on one, while the portal’s MCPs tab still listed none.
Why isn’t my approved plugin on the ChatGPT plugin directory home page?
Approval puts a plugin in the directory’s search and on its own page at chatgpt.com/plugins. The shelves on the directory home page are chosen by OpenAI: on 6 October 2026, New & Noteworthy held Adobe, tldraw, Canva, Figma, Shopify and MagicPath, a DevDay launch partner. We know of no form to apply for them.

How review works
Formerly ChatGPT Apps; the Apps SDK submission flow now lives under Plugins. You upload a plugin ZIP whose plugin.json carries the listing, test cases and release notes, then add reviewer credentials and attestations in the OpenAI Platform with a verified developer identity. One version can be in review at a time. Listing and skill changes need a new ZIP version, and for an already-published plugin those can be approved the moment they are submitted; tool changes roll out through OpenAI’s scans. OpenAI publishes no timeline. Rejections tend to arrive in days; approvals can take months.
